It’s about time e-tailers cut down on packaging

amazon packaging

Amazon announced a new “frustration free packaging”, which removes the products from all that plastic packaging so that customers do not have to hunt down their jaws of life to open these things up. I guess memory cards are what are being called out, but lots of things I buy have annoying and definitely unnecessary packaging.

Two things all e-tailers should do:

1. Learn from Apple to make the packaging cool, mostly with paper, and promote re-use of those boxes.
2. Send simply packaged goods to customers in recycled paper. I can understand having some shinier packaging for brick & mortar stores but just make it easy for e-tailers to do the right thing.

In this day and age, why not?

Top 5 scary movies you have not seen…

I’ve been a bit energised by some of the recent events…you may have heard of it. First black prez, crude oil below $70, and a global economic crisis. But the most important way to not think about the things going on around you is to watch scary movies, and here are 5 that you probably haven’t seen. I have not seen them either….

Mohinder Suresh is homage to The Fly?

mohinder

I was inspired after watching Heroes to watch The Fly. Yes, the Fly with Jeff Goldblum from the 80’s. The reason is that the Mohinder character from Heroes is a direct replica of Jeff Goldblum’s character in The Fly, Seth Brundle.

The Fly actually holds up quite well since it was made as you watch Jeff rocking the David Copperfield hairdo…well…until he turns into a fly. I hope that is not a spoiler given the name of the movie is The Fly. This was actually one of my favourite movies growing up because it’s just great sci-fi. The first scene of the movie has Seth saying into the camera, “What I’m working on is something that will change the world.” Then he turns into a fly…over the next 90 minutes or so. As my lovely wife had not had the pleasure of watching this movie, I thought it would be a great opportunity to watch her reaction to some of the sci-fi gore in the movie and sure enough…there were some great scenes that made her say, “ZOMG WTF”. Yeah…totally worthwhile if your female partner has not watched this movie.
